Research Consulting
We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists with over 15 years of experience working with academia, industry, and NGO’s. Our experts are committed to working together with our clients to deliver research services across the following key research areas:
- Aquatic ecosystems – freshwater, estuarine & marine environments
- Agriculture systems & aquaculture systems
- Biogeochemistry (e.g., C and N cycling)
- Biotechnology (e.g., anaerobic digestion, insect farming, bioremediation, wastewater treatment, constructed wetlands)
- Environmental DNA (eDNA)
- Environmental microbiomes
- Plant physiology & rhizosphere ecology
- Soil ecosystems and processes
Statistical Consulting
Our team has extensive experience in the development and application of innovative modelling and analyses for enhanced primary and natural resource management outcomes. We help our clients design effective research programs, and get the most out of their data to better support their research and management needs. We offer:
- Advice on designing quantitative studies
- Inferential statistical analysis
- Multivariate analysis
- Bioinformatics
Writing – grants and publications
To date, our team has collectively secured funding from various bodies including the Australian Research Council (ARC), The Fisheries Research and Development Program (FRDC), AgriFutures Australia, Philanthropic donors, State Government agencies, industry partners, non-profit organisations and local councils.
We have collectively published over 35 peer-reviewed articles in high impact factor journals. Ooid Scientific has been included on The Nature Index (Index of high-quality research outputs) for two calendar years for our research outputs. Our work has been collectively cited > 1100 times.
See our publications for examples of our work.
We can work with you to produce a variety of publications including:
- Peer reviewed journal articles

ASSESSMENT OF DISSOLVED ORGANIC NITROGEN (DON) BIOAVAILABILITY
CLIENT: The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, WA.
OBJECTIVE: Assess the potential bioavailability of DON across catchments in South West WA.
ACTIONS:
- Project conceptualisation and experimental design.
- Field and laboratory data collection. Data analyses.
- Delivery of final report and stakeholder presentation.
OUTCOMES:
- Quantification of the fraction of DON that is readily bioavailable, informing its potential role in downstream eutrophication.
- Identification of hotspots or critical source areas where DON inputs are elevated and more likely to contribute to ecological impacts.
- Improved nutrient budgets and management strategies for regional water quality planning.

BLACK SOLDIER FLY TECHNOLOGY TO CONVERT AGRICULTURAL WASTE
CLIENT: The University of Western Australia
OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the potential of Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) frass as agricultural fertiliser based on laboratory and field experiments.
ACTIONS:
- Project management and data analyses (including bioinformatics) across multiple field and lab trials.
- Development, writing and publication of scientific papers, summary reports and infographics.
OUTCOMES:
- Evidence of frass effectiveness as a fertiliser, including its impact on plant growth and soil condition.
- Understanding of nutrient and microbial properties of BSF frass and how they may benefit soil and plants.
- Guidance on practical use and application to support its potential adoption in sustainable farming systems.

SOIL RESPONSES TO BIOLOGICAL AMENDMENTS: MECHANISMS & OUTCOMES
CLIENT: The University of Western Australia
