Contamination with petroleum hydrocarbons is one of the leading causes of soil pollution worldwide. Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination can impair soil functioning and impact the health of organisms living in and on the soil. Some of the work we have been doing in this space includes:
- Researching the potential to use plants to ‘help’ microbes to break down petroleum hydrocarbons more efficiently
- Investigating the impact of historical oil spills in the pristine environment of the Kimberley, Western Australia.
